Report Launch Event and Panel Discussion on Electric Vehicles and Utility–scale Storage Integration in Distribution Network

Report Launch Event and Panel Discussion on Electric Vehicles and Utility–scale Storage Integration in Distribution Network

Date: July 13, 2020 (Monday)

Time: 6 – 8:00 pm (IST) / 8.30 – 10.30 am (EDT)

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to a virtual event marking the public release of two documents of seminal importance for India’s transitioning energy sector. Both these reports analyze the impacts of new emerging technologies such as solar photovoltaics (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and electric vehicles (EVs) on the distribution network. The reports have been developed under USAID’s Greening the Grid (GTG) Program in partnership with the BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. (BRPL) and the event is being organized on the sidelines of the U.S-India Strategic Energy Partnership on July 13 from 6.00-8.00 p.m (IST).

The first report titled ‘Preparing distribution utilities for utility-scale storage and electric vehicles – A novel analytical framework’ has been developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), USA under USAID’s GTG program. The report presents power distribution system impact analysis framework to evaluate the impact of PV, BESS, and EVs, which will analyze the readiness of the power distribution network to integrate utility scale storage in the system.

The second document to be released is a white paper on ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and Impacts on Distribution Network’, developed under USAID’s Renewable Integration and Sustainable Energy (RISE) initiative, the central component of GTG program, implemented by Deloitte Consulting. The white paper analyzes the key considerations to be taken into account for setting up of EV charging infrastructure, presents an extensive review of international experience and the prioritization framework for laying out charging infrastructure for a distribution utility.

The report release will be followed by presentations and high level high level panel discussion with experts from Ministry of Power, BRPL, Southern California Edison (SCE), NREL & GTG-RISE. The virtual event will see participation by a range of stakeholders, including the government, development partners, implementing agencies, thought leaders, and energy sector experts. The GTG program is a joint initiative of USAID and the Ministry of Power.
