February 9, 2018- Bengaluru, Karnataka Additional Chief Secretary- Energy, P. Ravi Kumar, Member of Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), H. D. Arun Kumar and Managing Director, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), Jawaid Akhtar, jointly launched the Maharashtra state results of the joint U.S.-India study. The state results demonstrates that demonstrates that Karnataka’s electricity grid can balance 17 GW of solar and wind energy (equivalent to 48 percent of its generation) at 15-minute operational timescales, which would allow the state to change from net importer to net exporter of energy. Coal generation would be 41 percent less within the state with the 17 GW of RE compared to a future where no new renewable energy is produced after 2016.
