Report Release on Tamil Nadu results of Greening the Grid
October 27, 2017- Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s Principal Secretary- Energy, Vikram Kapur launched the Tamil Nadu state results of the joint U.S.-India study. The first volume was released on June 29, 2017 by former Union Power Minister, Piyush Goyal. The state results demonstrates that Tamil Nadu’s electricity grid can balance 24 GW of solar and wind energy (equivalent to 40 percent of its generation) at 15-minute operational timescales. Coal generation will be 33 percent less within the state if the 24 GW target is met, compared to a future where no new RE is produced after 2016.
