Women play a pivotal role in household cooking sector in the South Asia region. Particularly, in India, nearly 60% of the population depends on polluting, open fires or inefficient stoves to cook their food.
This session aims to highlight some of the best practices from the World Bank’s Bangladesh Clean Cook stoves Program and lessons for the South Asia Region, in particular India. The expert panel will dive-deep into ground level realities, challenges and opportunities w.r.t clean cook stoves – as an enabler to improved women health with reduced in house air-pollution and poverty alleviation through income generation/livelihood opportunities.
SAWIE, a joint initiative of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), aims to promote women’s empowerment and gender sensitization in the energy sector in South Asia region.
The platform will bring together leaders, particularly women leaders, across the energy sector to design interventions focused around outreach and recruitment; mentorship and leadership; increasing women’s participation in networking and brainstorming events, and professional development that can help bridge the gender gaps. USAID is supporting the SAWIE platform through its “Greening the Grid – Renewable Integration and Sustainable Energy (GTG-RISE)” initiative.
GTG-RISE is a key initiative under USAID’s Asia EDGE (Enhancing Growth and Development through Energy) and is implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP.
