Webinar Series on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Applications in Transmission System

Webinar Series on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Applications in Transmission System

Date: Tuesday, April 20th, 2021 | Time: 3:00 pm (IST)

As part of Greening the Grid (GTG) Webinar Series, USAID India is pleased to organize a knowledge dissemination workshop on ‘Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Applications in Transmission System’. The workshop will present the learnings derived from the BESS pilot implemented under the USAID’s Greening the Grid – Renewable Integration of Sustainable Energy (GTG-RISE) initiative. This pilot aims to support the deployment of BESS in transmission utilities by demonstrating an array of BESS applications and its value in the Indian grid. The pilot, implemented in partnership with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), includes enhancement of existing IT-based controls at its existing BESS facility at Puduchchery. After the successful go live of BESS pilot on December 21, 2020, various trial runs and use cases were tested on the pilot.

The objective of the webinar is to present the results of these tests and trial runs conducted so far under actual grid condition to help industry stakeholders to assess the capability of BESS in providing various grid level services. The webinar will provide insights to policy makers and regulators about the possible contributions which a BESS can make in improving larger grid parameters and providing localized benefits to the system.

About The GTG RISE Program

USAID/India’s Greening the Grid (GTG) is a five-year program implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Power (MOP), Government of India (GOI) under the ASIA-EDGE (Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy) Initiative. This program aims to support GOI’s efforts to manage large-scale integration of Renewable Energy (RE) into the grid. The central component of GTG is Renewable Integration and Sustainable Energy (RISE) Initiative which involves the design, implementation, and scaling of a series of prioritized innovation pilots, including the one on BESS with the PGCIL. GTG-RISE is implemented by Deloitte LLP.
